A dear friend of mine, Sara, has a vase that she loves. When she told me about it initially I thought – well, she works in contemporary art at Christie’s so she must only have the most fabulous artistic works in her home, which, in many cases she does, however, this vase we’re all lucky enough to be able to have as well as it’s by the wonderful interior designer, Jonathan Adler.
The vase in question is above – with voluptuous breasts covering the whole thing. In stumbling across the same vase of Sara’s on Jonathan’s site I also found that his design pieces are in many cases very very insightful, functional, and unique.
The above is one of my other favorite pieces of Adler’s – a scute of a turtle is one of their most strong points. The idea of replicating that strength in porcelain and turning it into a lamp or even it could be a sconse is great to me. I wish I had one of these for my vestibule.
Fish’s Eddy in New York also sells hand/glove molds out of ceramics but this one strikes a more personal cord. For years I’ve given the “peace” sign in photos, however, per my senior art project, it has equally as much to do with the similarities between “peace” and the letter K in sign language.
Such an elegant birdfeeder! The things I would do sans budget.
Vases mocking banana peels…since I bought my mom the fruit bowl made out of a banana clump in chrome I feel somehow more responsible for her banana motivate pieces of art.
