I spent this weekend in the Hamptons with some friends and am already nostalgic for the greenery and the beach. I thought I would post about Ted Muehling who finds inspiration in all sorts of organic forms, flora and fauna. He creates works in his New York studio out of a variety of materials including metal, glass, stone, plastic, wood and more. I’m hoping to plan a trip to his showroom sometime this week!

Above are his coral vases and below his coral spoon – to me they look more like sea sponges in some ways but regardless they were part of his line commissioned by a German porcelain company. They play into my porcelain addiction and remind me of Isabelle Abramson!

I love the shell bowl below with its high gloss interior that deepens as the bowl gets deeper.

I can’t help but think how appropriate and ironic the moth votive holder below would be on the screened-in porch at my parents house in New Hampshire. The moths always try to get in as we eat dinner in the summer, having them on the table would be amazing.

While watching a movie earlier today after a bike ride we were faced with a finch in the window trying to get in out of the wind. It could have been sunbathing too we supposed…this little nest would have just about fit that little guy but Muehling makes it into a great votive holder as well.

Another sea inspired item is his glass bowl below, which is part of Muehling’s line commissioned by Steuben Glass in 2004.

I like Muehling’s work – the item’s are more luxurious and blend art and craft, nature and creativity.
