As I’ve been in New Hampshire for the last week working on some projects of my own I’ve been going into town to the gallery there ocassionally to poke around. One photographer that I came upon was Jon Olsen in the Sharon Arts Center here in Peterborough.
His water shots remind me of Elger Esser in many ways. Ethereal boat pictures in hyper-focus are particularly similar in my mind.
Interestingly Jon, in college, studied political science but he went into photography right after school. He has worked all over most of New England it appears.
Historically he has worked in black & white, color, and with traditional printing techniques but now focuses in digital photography and printing, which seems to be common amongst many photographers I meet these days.
As my mom pointed out there are many of his works, like the one above, that would be great as a felted flat piece.
Jon seems most interested in flora and fauna, landscapes and water scenes — he has several lighthouses in his collection that make you think about who must live in them and what goes on there.
The above would be a great flat, felted work as well — you can just see the horizon lines being textural and contrasting.
