While looking at potential Christmas gifts on Merchant No. 4 today I came across a design duo that I thought was making some really great things to share, Voon Wong and Benson Saw.
What I saw were the above condiment plates that vary in size but are molecular in their structure. What I didn’t realize at the time was some of the other cool stuff they were making, most notably a series of lamps.
The above are lamps but the light source isn’t a bulb, it’s the lamp itself.
The lamps or shapes are woven out of electro-luminescent wire, which, as they point out on their site, as a single strand has no light power but when woven into a denser panel or shape can be a viable light source.
How beautiful is that! I’m not sure how long the wire lasts or if it dims over time but I’m going to find out — this could be a great way to illuminate the inside of the crocheted yurt when it’s finished!
They also work on other sorts of lights, furniture, architecture projects and more out of their London based firm.
