I’m not sure I even need to explain at this point why I’m so into Terhi Tolvanen.
Terhi makes jewelery, or did from 1999 – 2008, her work is extraordinarily natural and beautiful.
These look like beautiful coral reefs — I wonder how big they are — I bet they look amazing on!
Much of her work on her site is in the form of brooches — as a former jeweler myself that seems normal when you’re making intricate textures, it’s probably easier to make affix a pin to the back of a piece then to try to figure out how to make it into a matching pair or a ring.
Another brooch, it appears she uses semi-precious stones mixed with natural elements like branches.
So much of this work reminds me of Steven and William Ladd’s intricate beading, sewing and folding.
How great is the above color and texture — it looks like caviar.
These are little crystal chrysalis in brooch form — I love the riveting holding them together.
The translucent qualities of this brooch are so lovely, she mixes materials in a way that definitely pushes the envelope in my opinion.
