Today I came across the artist Jason Hackenwerth at Lost at E Minor — the link was just a super cool photo of his epic balloon-based art works but I tracked him down.
I love the regularity he’s able to achieve in the pattern of the balloons and the way look threatening but then you remember they’re fairly light.
The ones above make me want to build a model of the yurt in balloons before I make it out of wool just to get a sense of how many feet of cord I’ll need — I bet balloons would make a great reusable, recyclable shelter! Though they may be too flammable.
In many of Jason’s works the human body is involved too — people wear these huge structures and appear to dance around — I haven’t had a chance to watch some of the videos yet.
I love when people take the cellular look to whole new levels, these might be some of the biggest I’ve seen that evoke the poteential of a good petri dish.
I mean they’re just so cool! Jason it appears is working out of Grand Rapids right now though he has been working in NYC for a while — it sounds like he’s got some exciting stuff going on for the next 9 months or so — I can’t wait to see what’s next!
