My brother sent me an image of a “land pin” or Pinching Earth yesterday that he had read on a variety of sites online. After digging around a bit I learned more about the artist, Mehmet Ali Uysal.
Turns out that Mehmet, a 34 year old Turkish installation artist, does some other really neat works – not a surprise. Many of them deal with actions happening to a wall whether that’s cracking, trapping things within them or reshaping with other pin type objects.
The idea of a hard, flat, structural surface as something malleable and soft is really great!
I also like the idea of these works being able to be in a home while being part of the home at the same time. I could see having a huge crack in a wall in the future – hopefully on purpose, not accidentally.
The above work is phenomenal, with the person seemingly trapped behind the wall. So many artists I look at show people on the wall whether in staples or string or twigs, but using a sort of frieze technique to make them appear trapped is something completely different.
