Over at Contemporist the other day I was introduced to Dan Yeffet and Lucie Koldova who collaborate on many projects it seems. I poked around on Dan’s own site of his work with his studio, JellyLab and found a whole bunch of neat stuff.
The first way to my heart is through felting. The above project is called “Cocoon” and is a collaboration between Dan and Justine Bazus. I can’t tell the scale of this, or its purpose but I like it all the same.
Another pic of “Cocoon,” it looks like short felt circles or slices of felt tubing sewn to a plastic frame…digging the weirdness over there.
This, the Strip Light, is another collaboration with Lucie. I like it’s simplicity – it almost looks wicker. I bet the shadow it produces is pretty great too.
That’s a lamp too – very different than the former. This once, “Landscape” is made of nylon it sounds like and I encourage you to look at the other pics on his site they’re pretty crazy and part of a larger collection he says.
Dan’s personal history is cool – he was born in Jerusalem and attended Bezalel Academy as other artists I’ve blogged about have as well. From there he went to Amsterdam where he continued to work and study – he founded JellyLab there. Now he lives in Paris – not too bad!
These lamps are called “Detail” and appear to part of a private collection. He notes that they are done via his unique signature, which I take to mean his fingerprint as these look like abstractions of one’s fingerprint put into lamp form.
I love how the look when they glow – very awesome. There seem to be a ton of cool lights in this collection so I’m going to keep digging around on that site too!
