A new contributor to my little blog here is my friend Kathryn who is not only my upstairs neighbor in Boston but also an interior designer in training. Today she sent me an image of some gorgeous crocheted baskets at Design Within Reach, called the Neo Baskets.
Upon reading the online description I learned that the idea was that of Rosanna Contadini, who also creates crochet and knit cushions in addition to a range of baskets. She currently has two other designers working for her as well and the production is done by a cooperative of women.
The “yarn” is made of neoprene rubber, and is about 8mm thick according to the Design Within Reach site.
The company also makes some accessories but I’m way more interested in the home decorations.
Apparently each of the women in the weaving cooperative are able to put their own technical twist on the pieces resulting in each one being extremely unique.
The above reminds me of Valentino’s purses from last year with those big multi-layer flowers on them!
I’d like to use the above as a wastebasket – I love the look of industrial knitting. Apparently there’s a factory that they have in Italy that makes this cording specifically for Neo, that sure would make my yurt easier!
