Robert Wechsler is an Ohio-born, Los Angeles-based artist whom I’m not sure how I came across. I know that in my adoration of Design Glut though I have stumbled across many other artists whose work I would classify as ironic.
Like the above, Everything’s Coming Up Roses, which when left on cloth reveals the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe.
Robert is only two years older than I am and while I would be the last to call someone out for their age I do find his work very poignant – not for that fact alone.
Wouldn’t the above, Rearview, have been handy in high school? A lot of Wechsler’s pieces are in relation to his time at UCSB. He has done many projects on conjoined desks and the like.
This watering fountain, also on the UCSB campus, allows the person to drink when using on knob and water the plant above when using the other.
Much like findgerprints we know that zebra markings are very identifying. I don’t know why I like the above so much but I do.
