My brother sends me tons of weird stuff from his Google Reader. Whether he’s home or abroad I typically wake up with at least one email from him with a small editorial comment and then whatever the weird thing is. He was spot on this morning with a needly felter from Minnesotta, Kit Lane. He found her on Boing Boing since she had needle felted a huge Jabba the Hutt!
It’s awesome – it’s to represent Jabba’s youth, when he traveled around with his plush bunny toy!
As someone who just got into needle felting I love the detail she can create with the roving. I think I need to get one with fewer needles.
It’s funny, in reading her site, I learned that Kit has a dog as well and uses the puppys fur too in her works – now that’s resourceful!
This is one of her works in progress – I can’t wait to see what it turns into – I actually like it just the way it is now! It’s sort of an amorphous rock sculpture.
The above is supposed to be a Cephalopod – Kit integrated shells and bone into her works – this is something I’ve been working with, the idea of how felt and wool can consume other objects or represent other things – the shells here represent eyes.
