The group Nest, that I’ve begun working with, has been really inspirational in many ways. On one of my current projects, the founder opened up her world and suggested I speak with a friend of hers – one of the founders of the company Graypants, which is a Seattle-based lamp and furniture company.
Above are the guys’ sketchlamps – literally the paper that they use to design their furniture and lighting objects they’ve since turned into beautiful oval lamps.
Another image of the sketchlamps are above. What Graypants seems to be first known for, however, are their lamps made of recycled corrugated cardboard. I haven’t seen them in person yet but it sounds like they’re laser cut – they create awesome shadows.
The scrap lights are above. One of favorite items that they make is actually a chair – it’s called their slice chair and it is a chair and ottoman integrated together – but able to be used independently.
As I build out the idea I’m working on I’m hoping that the guys who work on these objects will be able to lend their creative minds to the concept. The best part for me is that they seem to share my belief that there are no accidents – everything is a learning process – and this project has larger implications as well for future design!
Another of their chairs – you have to watch the video of them making this in fast forward!
