This weekend I spent out at my friends’ house in New Jersey, Nanske and Bill. While new friends, they are incredibly sincere, generous and open. They respect me, even though I’m younger, and they let me share my ideas, stories, and more. In addition to being awesome, Nanske is also very design conscious. She keeps an amazing home and is very into European design – she’s Dutch. She introduced me to what I thought was only a textiles company, Svenskt Tenn.
Many of the fabric designs are by one of the company’s founders, Josef Frank. His natural patterns are whimsical in some respects and negligent of the scale of normal fruits, plants, and vegetables to create awesome imagery in great colors.
The company was founded in 1924 as a lifestye company – they work with more than just textiles but also awesome furniture and household items too.
Nanske had fabric to make new kitchen curtains with that was awesome as well as great summer plates, trays, coasters, and more from the company.
I love how the above fabric looks – very amoeba-y and oceanic.
The plates are, I think, fabric on melamine with a resin coating – they’re great by the pool and outside.
The fabric above of Manhattan is terrific too – I love how it shows the streets and water in such clear solid colors.
This glass – part of their housewares section is really cool too, it’s all really cool – the twist on the edge could be functional or decorative, I’m not sure which, but I like how clean it looks.
