Also at Cite the other weekend, I stumbled upon Niels van Eijk and Miriam van der Lubbe – turns out their work extends so far beyond the handgun purse that was there I almost want to separate this into multiple posts but I’m going to try one!
I love how the above are like apartment buildings for birds – how cool is that! I can just see a bunch of these at my parent’s place in New Hampshire.
One of the best part of Niels and Miriam’s site is that they explain how they make many of their items – these stools for example are poured into a mold, hardened and then flipped over.
They not only make consumer products but they also do exhibitions, interiors, incredible things with flowers and what they call simply objects. The above is one of the exhibitions – the colors they chose for the hangers are really terrific and vibrant and I like the idea of something typically used for tidying up in fact making the room quite tricky to navigate!
One of their many flower garments, this features one of my favorites – the ever-happy Gerbera Daisy.
Another flower dress – I believe they displayed these in Milan, perhaps they were part of a runway show.
Believe it or not, the above is a vase! They made two sizes, one small and one large, about waist high, that has tons of holes in it so that flowers can be used to create little vignettes. Another, very different example is below!

FYI: some of the flower dresses will be coming to New York in September as part of the unveiling of a pavilion in Battery Park, followed by a display at the Museum of Arts & Design. More info will follow on http://www.ny400.org.

Thanks so much for the heads up, Robert! The NY400 looks awesome – I had no idea about it. Can’t wait to get involved!
