Earlier this month I had the pleasure of a surprise trip to Switzerland! I went over for about a week and loved it – I didn’t know what I was in for but it was beautiful. We went to Yverdon-les-Bains, stayed in Geneva for a few days, went to Montreux to see the Castle of […]

I’m horizontal on my couch this afternoon after a morning adventure to the new CrossFit location here in Boston – wow, what a killer workout. Since I’m largely immobilized and it’s a semi-holiday here for MLK Day, I’ve been perusing the internet and came upon Hong Seon Jang. As the lover of unique uses of […]

It seems like everyone else knows all about Petah Coyne, she has an amazingly informational Wikipedia page and tons of images on Google – I love it. Her sculptures include tons of different regular and not so regular materials as well as taxidermy animals, wax, repetitive patterns, etc. You can see in this close up […]

I can’t stop myself from jumping, late, onto the Ikat bandwagon. I love that the design is created by dying either the warp or weft of a weave, such a simple change that creates such a distinct, painterly look. In this month’s Elle Decor I came across one I had never seen before from Brunschwig […]

Once again I got a great tip from my mom – to check out Rachel John – a UK-based “extreme knitter” who recently knit 1,000 strands at once to make essentially a mattress out of yarn. If you haven’t already seen the video it can be seen here and is really well done. Rachel also […]

In looking at additional artists using everyday materials for their art I came upon Mark Khaisman – a Ukraine-born artist who studied at the Moscow Architectural Institute. Now living and working in Philadelphia, Mark creates arts out of layers of packing tape on plexiglass that appears to be backlit. My favorite series is the one […]

I think that Kate Pruitt and I have a similar fascination with oversized, odd knit items. Today, while reading her blog, I was again exposed to Christien Meindertsma whose site I had once stumbled upon before I was so quick to bookmark everything. Christien actually makes an item called the Urchin Pouf, which, just as […]

A few years ago, when I had just moved to New York, my family came to visit. I think it must have been for Thanksgiving as my brother, Michael, came up from Baltimore as well. We went out to the Brooklyn Museum of Art as we wanted to see the Ron Mueck exhibit. I wasn’t […]

I went to the framer yesterday to drop off the picture I bought from Lonny Photo. I ended up choosing a reclaimed barnwood frame that he sources from Texas. I have another barnwood frame in my foyer so this will match! Also – because in the image the horse is biting an old wood fence […]

I’m a big fan of handprinted fabric. I’ve posted on Virginia Johnson here before but today I came upon an Etsy printer, HomeSweet, who is a blockprinting scientist – literally. Her Eyelet pattern above is simple and fresh! I love the varied green shades in her Leaf Weave pattern. Minileaves here – very Orla Kiely!
