I went to a fabulous, quickie lunch today with my friend Charlotte at Ed’s Lobster Bar down the street from my office. She’s leaving today for a work trip to Israel and Egypt and I wanted to catch her before she left. She was wearing the most beautiful necklace that I noticed when we sat down – she told me it was made of raccoon pecker bones. I had to know more. Turns out they’re actually alligator toe bones but you get the obscurity I had touched on! They’re by this wonderful Georgia and Mexico based jeweler, Gogo Ferguson.

Gogo it turns out spends half of the year where I did study abroad in high school, San Miguel de Allende.

The above is an affordable raccoon pecker ring!

After having worked an alligator skin into two handbags over the holidays (not easy and they’re small bags if you’re curious) I learned all about these little scutes and how dense they are on an alligator’s spine. They make great accessories though!
