This weekend I had the pleasure of going to the SoWa Art Open Market, which is like a real live Etsy in the South End of Boston. There were so many great artists making everything from dog leashes to hats to jewelry in addition to food vendors like bakers, jam makers, and a hot dog truck. This weekend, as it was their opening weekend, also meant that the artist’s studios were able to be walked through and checked out, which was an added bonus – more on that later. One amazing jeweler I met was Ashley Vick of Filomena’s House.

She too is really into sea-oriented items and makes these killer urchin rings – above. She also is into spheres, which I know aren’t easy to forge – I bought myself the earrings below for myself for my birthday, which is tomorrow!!

Ashley went to Massachusetts College of Art and lives and works in Providence – she also makes large scale works, which I’m excited to check out.

Sort of like Gogo Ferguson, she also makes jewelry of animal parts like these vertebraes, which are brooches cast in bronze. She was one a slew of artists I met and really adored – she was open about her techniques and so friendly on what was kind of a dreary day, weather-wise. Can’t wait to post about others I met today!
