DudeCraft, Make and my brother, Michael all showed me the work of Baptiste Debombourg this week and I had to share. Similar to Ray Hwang, who makes use of straight pins and buttons to create wall art, Baptiste uses another common element, staples, to achieve larger images on walls.
Like work in pen or pointilism it seems that putting the staples closer together is a technique for creating shadow — how cool is that?
Also, like Tara Donovan’s works, these pieces are forced to be created in the environments where they’ll be viewed for a time and then taken apart. They’re temporary, transitive, time consuming to create, repetitive, monotonous, and beautiful!
Baptiste also does other pieces like these exploding walls too, which are also awesome.
I’m not sure what the material is, cardboard, or wooden board, but it’s so meticulous in its destruction — and as I always love, it’s huge!
