Such a small world moment here today — I was looking at a beautiful papercut of a big ball of yarn admiring it and the skill of its maker, Erin Dollar, only to then read her Etsy profile to learn she’s also behind I Made You a Beard, which I believe I saw and met at the Renegade Craft Fair in San Francisco!

I love the idea of using one medium to represent materials for a whole other kind of craft. I’ve never tried paper cutting but I love the depth and texture of this piece and it’s repetitive, soothing form!

Erin works out of Portland, OR and, as I mentioned, she doesn’t hold herself to one form.

Another papercut is above — the same one is below as well, it’s so cool to me how different it looks with the darker background coloring.

This sort of calculated, methodical artwork reminds me again of Meander’s pieces. I think this is part of what attracts me to various forms – the commitment it takes to make them and the pieces (cuts) that make up a whole.
