Big news on the homefront — I’m moving! My boyfriend and I have decided to move in together and so we’re decorating – so far it’s just in our minds as we don’t move in until March 5 but we look at things all the time. While he seems more concerned with furniture, I’m into the wall art and as a result I came across John Derian, who was featured in this month’s new Matchbook Magazine, which is amazing – but more on that later.

Coming from a family of farmers in Nebraska I can’t help but love the above tractor. The great thing about John’s pieces is that I can see them all clustered together on a wall somewhere, unique but part of a set of sorts. Initially what attracted me to his site was that Matchbook spoke on his decoupage , an art form that my mother is very very into. At this point almost our entire house in New Hampshire is covered in cut outs from magazine, postcards, botanical books and so forth shellaced in some way to every tray, bowl, vase, cup, box and table she can get he hands on.

As we looked for apartments earlier in January we saw some really cool ones and some way too tiny ones. One thing was for sure, we needed a place with a nice kitchen as we’ve been getting more and more into cooking in the last few months.

In our new place we have over 1500 square feet on the parlor level of the building so very high ceilings – we have lots of walls to fill so I’m constantly on the hunt for great posters, paintings and wall art like hanging baskets and the like. This is the first of what I’m sure will be many posts surrounding decorating – we’ll see what this turns into!
