I have been trying to be a bit more active on Twitter these days – reading more but also sharing more things that I find. One person I came across was Erin Loechner who writes Design for Mankind. I found out about her through Rue Magazine’s Twitter and after many an hour on her site I came across the awesome artist, Daniel Arsham.
I love the clouds he makes though I have no idea what they’re made of or how they’re suspended. To be fair they could be graphic but they’re in his site’s 3D page so I don’t think that’s right.
My absolute favorite piece of Daniel’s works are of his wall / building cavities. I’m going to let that sink in as everyone looks at the picture again…as someone who just had a cracked tooth fixed I can totally visualize the work’s title. Sometimes works don’t seem to relate to their titles from the outside – I don’t know where I fall on the question of, does that matter, but this one I love.
Another building cavity. These say they’re made of EPS, plaster, paint, joint compound. I wonder if this type of thing is something I would ever have in my home someday. Something tells me a lot of people would come over and think it was in error.
This sort of reminds me of Baptiste Debombourg’s work of things coming through the walls at the viewers.
I so love this piece – “Corner Knot.” I especially love the shadow that it creates on the wall behind it – you can literally feel the tension in the walls being pulled into each other.
